Simple wood stanchion with a single movable head lock board that is locked in place with a single pin. Concrete step just behind back feet allows urine/manure to fall away from milking area. Inside walls, stanchion painted white, kept clean. The floor can be sprayed clean with a hose, even sanitized with a bleach solution to kill bacteria and keep flies out.
Here, we see a modern “do-it-yourself” plan to make a raised stanchion out of wood. Like most NEW projects, this looks nice, but the cow is going to make a mess of it and it will be very difficult to clean once it’s dirty and covered with flies mid-summer…yuck. Just not a good idea–as time and experience will prove. I’d like to see some “after” pictures.
